How it all Began…
Growing up in the bush gave each of us an appreciation for the world around us and the adventures that it offers. After living in the city (Melbourne), we wanted our children to experience the wonder that we had and decided it was time for a change. We were drawn to Derby by the mountain biking on a ‘working holiday’ in January 2021 and we loved it so much that we decided to stay.
We started Pilgrim Blue to offer others accommodation in the heart of Derby, so that you could also experience some of the joy of being surrounded by mountain, lake, river and forest with some of the best wilderness adventures on your doorstep. We love to share our passion for mountain biking, hiking, swimming and adventuring and support guests with a variety of bike needs. For those travelling through we offer the option of one night accommodation.
Pilgrim Blue brings together new and old in a place to stay featuring both comfort and history. It is a brand-new place to stay in a historic church hall built in 1891 on the traditional lands of the Pyemmairrener people who have cared for it for thousands of years. The build emphasises Tasmanian and Australian native woods and natural fibres. It is our intention to honour local people, history and environment in all we do for your accommodation.
Pilgrim Blue is one of the few owner-managed accommodation venues in Derby, a feature that enables us to treat each guest with individual care and attention to detail. We believe in being part of the local community and sourcing what we can from North East Tasmania to build back into the beautiful place we also call home.
